Romania advances security and anti-corruption cooperation

Romanian officials are advancing strategic cooperation in security and anti-corruption efforts through bilateral meetings and international seminars.

Interim Minister of Internal Affairs Cătălin Predoiu held an extensive working meeting with a delegation from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The discussions focused on optimizing protocols to combat organized crime, including drug and human trafficking, and establishing rapid alert mechanisms. The meeting emphasized aligning border monitoring systems with advanced transatlantic technologies to address regional asymmetric risks and secure the national investment environment.

Separately, a delegation from the Romanian Ministry of Justice, led by State Secretary Teodora Stoian, participated in an anti-corruption seminar in Chișinău, Moldova. The discussions centered on a new European approach to corruption prevention, shifting focus from reacting to incidents to identifying institutional vulnerabilities. The seminar addressed the transposition of EU Directive 2026/1021 into national legislation and the importance of mapping administrative risks to prevent corruption before it occurs.
