Romania advances Sibiu‑Făgăraș highway and Brănești beltway projects

Construction of the 68‑kilometre Sibiu–Făgăraș A13 motorway is proceeding on all four sections. Lot 1 (Boița–Avrig) is 15.3 % complete, Lot 2 (Avrig–Arpașu de Jos) 38.9 %, Lot 3 (Arpașu de Jos–Sâmbăta de Sus) 41 %, and Lot 4 (Sâmbăta de Sus–Făgăraș) 25.8 %. Over 1,680 workers and more than 830 machines are on site, with the Turkish contractor Makyol handling the work. The project, financed by a 6.4 billion‑lei program, is slated for completion in 2028.

In Ilfov County, the Brănești bypass (Variantei Ocolitoare) is nearing completion, with the final asphalt layer being laid. The works have reached 97 % execution, including relocation of electrical, water and sewer networks, protection of a Transgaz pipeline, and installation of LED street lighting. The road is expected to be fully operational by 6 July 2026. Funding comes from non‑repayable EU PNRR funds and national co‑financing.
