Romania advances major road, rail, and metro infrastructure projects
Romania is undergoing extensive transportation infrastructure upgrades across its road and rail networks.
On the highway network, the A1 Pitești-Sibiu section between Cisnădie and Boița will face closures from October 5 until December 19 to facilitate the construction of a passage for the future A1-A13 connection. Meanwhile, the A3 Transylvania Highway's Chiribiș-Suplacu de Barcău section is nearing completion, with an expected opening on December 1, 2026. The A8 Unirii Highway is also progressing, with the Târgu Mureș – Miercurea Nirajului sector reaching 70% completion and aiming for partial opening in early 2027. In Bucharest, the A0 Ring Motorway's Lot 3 North is nearing its final asphalt stages, with an estimated traffic opening around October 20.
In urban and rail sectors, the Cluj-Napoca Metro project has secured 357 million euros in new funding—including 305 million from the EU—to continue its development. On the railways, a new bridge is being tendered for the Deda-Razboieni line to modernize the network. Additionally, a new 50 million euro road bridge over the Tisa river connecting Sighetu Marmației to Bila Țerkva, Ukraine, is scheduled to open on October 8.
In the business sector, Arcada Company, a key player in the Cluj metro project, reported significant growth, reaching 1.6 billion lei in turnover last year.
