Romania implements PNRR infrastructure and healthcare investments

Romania is seeing significant movement in public infrastructure and healthcare funding through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). The Ministry of Environment announced the completion of key targets for water and sewage infrastructure, having finalized 297 kilometers of drinking water networks and 947 kilometers of sewage pipelines to modernize rural and urban utilities.

In the healthcare sector, the Ministry of Health allocated 223.3 million lei to 37 projects, focusing on hospital modernization, neonatal intensive care, and medical digitalization. However, the National Health Insurance House (CNAS) reported recovering 4.6 million lei from 20 hospitals due to incorrect salary calculations.

Regional developments include 11 European-funded projects in Gorj worth nearly 51 million euros, aimed at industrial and infrastructure growth, though some face potential contract termination due to delays. Additionally, in Prahova county, certain communes like Ariceștii Rahtivani have reported high local revenues, exceeding 137 million lei, driven by industrial parks and European funds.

On the security front, the National Cyber Security Directorate (DNSC) has recommended a shift toward modern authentication methods, such as FIDO2 and passkeys, to combat rising phishing and credential theft threats.
