Romania’s Operation Jupiter cracks down on economic crimes and cigarette contraband nationwide

Romanian prosecutors and police carried out the national Operation Jupiter, executing 154 search warrants and 27 summonses in Bucharest and multiple counties. The raids target economic‑financial offences, fraud, tax evasion, illegal timber, weapons violations and organised crime.

In the anti‑contraband component, authorities seized more than 160 000 illegal cigarettes in Oradea and Alparea and another 223 000 cigarettes in Suceava, together worth over €200 000 in lost taxes. The total estimated damage across all investigated cases exceeds 11.7 million lei.

The coordinated actions, overseen by the Parchetul General and the Inspectoratul General al Poliţiei Române, also involved confiscating cash, vehicles, documents and electronic devices, and aim to recover assets and impose preventive measures against future offences.
