Romania and Portugal launch cultural residency and theatrical premieres
The “InBetween Memory. A Romania–Portugal Residency” project is set to begin an artistic residency at the Aureliu Manea National Theatre in Turda from August 24 to September 22, 2026. Co-financed by the Romanian Cultural Institute through the Cantemir Program, the initiative aims to foster cultural dialogue between Romania and Portugal by exploring themes of identity, belonging, and historical memory.
Coordinated by Portuguese director Hugo Miguel Coelho, the residency will involve selected actors from the Turda National Theatre in a month of research, documentation, and artistic development. The project will conclude in Évora, Portugal, in late September, where the results of the residency will be presented to a Portuguese audience.
In addition to this residency, the Sala Dalles in Bucharest will host the premiere of “INMORTALIDAD” on September 2, 2026. This poetic theatre production, directed by Magda Catone, is inspired by the works of Jorge Luis Borges. The performance integrates live music, including tango and milonga influences by guitarist Maxim Belciug, with dance and theatrical storytelling to explore the literary universe of the Argentine author.
