Romania and Slovakia address drone-related security and civil defense
The Romanian Ministry of Defense has stated there are no indications of an increased risk of drone-related airspace violations in the western, Carpathian regions of the country. The ministry clarified that recent drone incidents have primarily been linked to attacks against Ukrainian port infrastructure near the Danube, close to the Romanian border.
In response to recent incidents, Defense Minister Radu Miruță announced a nationwide information campaign. This initiative aims to educate the public on how to react if drones or drone parts are discovered and to combat spreading disinformation.
Meanwhile, in Slovakia, authorities are conducting a large-scale civil defense exercise titled ‘Shadows in the Clouds’ near Poprad. The drill, involving several ministries and hundreds of participants, simulates a drone crash at a factory site resulting in dozens of casualties. The exercise includes air raid sirens and tests the response of emergency services, hospitals, and local municipalities to manage mass casualties and crisis communication.
