Romania and Slovakia drone security cooperation

Romania and Slovakia have initiated measures to address security concerns regarding drone-related airspace violations near the Ukrainian border. The Romanian Ministry of Defense noted that recent incidents are primarily linked to attacks on Ukrainian port infrastructure near the Danube, though it maintains there is no increased risk to the western or Carpathian regions.

In response, Romania has launched a nationwide information campaign to educate the public on drone-related safety and to combat disinformation. Simultaneously, Slovakia conducted a large-scale civil defense exercise near Poprad, simulating a drone crash at a factory to test emergency service responses and mass casualty management.

To bolster surveillance, Slovakia has agreed to provide radar systems and trained personnel to assist Romania in detecting low-flying aerial targets. This cooperation follows Romanian requests to NATO and the European Union for increased border monitoring. Additionally, Romanian Defense Minister Radu Miruță confirmed the continued presence of American troops, noting that a contingent of 400 additional soldiers arrived recently to strengthen local defense capabilities.
