Romania manages school leadership contests and PNRR fund recovery efforts

Romania is navigating several administrative and financial developments within its public sector. Regarding European funds, interim Labor Minister Dragoş Pîslaru stated that the European Commission has provided clarification that Romania could partially recover funds from the 770 million euro PNRR grant if a unitary salary law is adopted before the November evaluation.

In the education sector, the Ministry of Education has launched a competition to fill over 7,800 vacancies for school directors and deputy directors. Interim Minister Mihai Dimian emphasized that the goal is to move away from temporary leadership and establish stability through merit-based selection. The application period is scheduled from September 14 to October 2, with final results expected in December.

Additionally, issues have arisen regarding the distribution of didactic career bonuses. While 183,423 employees received a 1,500 lei net payment, approximately 83,000 teachers were reportedly missing from the official payment lists, resulting in a total disbursement that was 140 million lei lower than the initial budget.
