Romania approves 2026-2030 Strategic Program for Aquaculture

The Romanian government has approved the Strategic Program for the Aquaculture Sector 2026-2030 (PSSA). This multi-annual document outlines directions for the development and modernization of the sector over the medium term.

The program includes the inventory, mapping, and assessment of aquatic basins, evaluating hydrological, hydrochemical, and biopotential indices. This data will serve as a basis for determining the potential of basins for fish farming activities and guiding investments in sector infrastructure. Key objectives include the rehabilitation of basins and hydrotechnical constructions, the modernization of fish hatcheries, and the genetic improvement of breeding stocks to expand production capacities.

Additionally, the PSSA incorporates measures to develop fish processing capacities, promote aquaculture products on the market, and provide professional training for farmers. These interventions aim to improve product quality and safety, diversify production, and help fish farms adapt to climate change. Implementation will occur in two stages: the first from 2026 to 2028, and the second from 2029 to 2030.
