Romania approves potato production subsidies
The Romanian Government has approved a de minimis aid scheme to support edible potato production for 2026. The program allocates a total budget of approximately 26.625 million lei, providing a maximum of 300 euros per hectare to eligible farmers.
Interim Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tánczos Barna noted that while the approved amount is lower than the 700-800 euros per hectare requested by the agricultural sector, it ensures support is available before the harvest. The aid aims to help producers manage rising production costs and challenges posed by imports.
To qualify, farmers must cultivate at least 0.3 hectares of edible potatoes and achieve a minimum yield of 12 tons per hectare. Applicants must be registered in the Agricultural Register and provide documentation proving the sale of their production. Payments are expected to be completed by December 22, 2026.
