Romania builds one of its largest green overpasses on the A1 highway

The Calinesti Ecoduct, also called the “green bridge,” is under construction on the A1 highway between Cornetu and Brezoi. The structure will span DN7, a railway line (CF201) and the Olt River, covering 300 m in length and 100 m in width with four arched openings. Work has progressed to drilling, reinforcement and concrete pouring for all 200 pilot piles, and foundations for piles 1, 2, 3 and 5 are being built. Approximately 5 000 t of reinforcement steel, 51 000 m³ of concrete and 5 300 t of metal decking will be used. The ecoduct will be topped with vegetation and a 1.2‑ha forested access area to preserve ecological continuity between the Capatanii, Cozia and Făgăraș mountains, mitigating habitat fragmentation caused by heavy traffic on DN7.

State Secretary Irinel Ionel Scriosteanu announced the progress on Facebook, noting that the ecoduct is part of a broader effort to maintain the ecological corridor while supporting the major road network.
