Romania celebrates Romanian Language Day and Diplomacy Day

Romania is observing two significant national commemorations: Romanian Language Day on August 31 and Romanian Diplomacy Day on September 1.

Romanian Language Day celebrates the country's national identity and cultural heritage. President Dan noted that for the first time, the day is being celebrated collectively across three countries: Romania, the Republic of Moldova, and Ukraine. With over 30 million speakers worldwide, the language serves as a vital connection for the diaspora in multicultural cities such as London, Madrid, Rome, and Paris.

Romanian Diplomacy Day, established by Law no. 269/2003, honors those representing the state's interests through international negotiation and cooperation. While the formal observance began in 2005, the history of Romanian diplomacy dates back to the Middle Ages, when envoys from Moldavia and Wallachia negotiated alliances and treaties with major powers to ensure political survival.
