Romania closes Bacău bypass and restricts A1 Sebeș‑Sibiu for road works

The Bacău bypass, part of the A7 motorway, will be completely closed to traffic from 17 to 31 August 2026. The closure enables connection works to new sections of the A7, including the final lot of the Focșani‑Bacău segment and three lots of the Bacău‑Pașcani segment. All transit traffic will be diverted onto DN 2 through the city, with authorities warning of possible congestion and longer travel times.

On 8 August 2026, the A1 highway between Sebeș and Sibiu imposed traffic restrictions until 19:30. Works between kilometre 247 and 248 near Sibiu involve laying a new asphalt surface, restricting the main carriageway and entry/exit ramps. Drivers are advised to use the alternate exit at kilometre 244.
