Romania compensates about 50 families daily for home installation damage

Data from the National Union of Insurance and Re‑insurance Companies (UNSAR) show that roughly 50 Romanian families receive compensation each day for damages caused by burst water pipes or other interior‑installation failures. In the previous year, insurers paid out around 18,300 claims for such incidents under optional home‑insurance policies.

The largest single payout recorded exceeded €42,000 for a claim involving a broken water pipe in a insured dwelling. UNSAR officials note that interior‑installation failures account for nearly half of all paid claims, highlighting the importance of comprehensive optional coverage beyond the mandatory PAD policy, which only covers earthquakes, landslides and floods.
