Romania considers day off for parents of young students
As the new school year approaches in Romania, a legislative project is under consideration that would grant parents of preschool, primary, and middle school students a day off to accompany their children on the first day of school. The proposal has passed the Senate, but it is not yet law; if not finalized, parents must coordinate leave with employers as usual. The measure specifically excludes parents of high school and vocational students.
In preparation for the return to classes, medical experts are advising parents to adjust children's sleep schedules. Pediatrician Gabrina Dixon emphasizes that proper sleep is vital for concentration and learning. Experts recommend gradually moving bedtimes earlier by 15 to 30 minutes in the weeks leading up to the start of school, while avoiding heavy meals and screen time before bed.
