Romanian school year regulations and parental obligations

Initial developments included a Senate-passed proposal to grant parents of preschool, primary, and middle school students a day off to accompany their children on the first day of school. This measure specifically excludes parents of high school and vocational students. Alongside these legislative efforts, medical experts advised families to adjust sleep schedules to prepare for the return to classes.

Subsequent focus has turned to the legal implications of student attendance. Under current regulations, taking children on vacation during the school year results in unexcused absences, as leisure travel is not recognized as a valid justification. These unexcused absences can lead to a reduction in a student’s conduct grade, potentially jeopardizing their ability to pass the school year. Additionally, parents face legal obligations to ensure compulsory education participation, with failure to comply potentially resulting in fines or community service.
