Romania detects over 100 drones near airspace in 96 hours

Romanian interim Defense Minister Radu Miruță reported that Ministry of National Defense (MApN) radars detected over 100 drones near Romanian airspace within the last 96 hours. Many of these were launched in swarms during seven separate attacks targeting Ukrainian Danube ports.

While most drones were intercepted and destroyed by Ukrainian air defenses outside of Romanian territory, debris from these incidents has been washed ashore by the Danube River and Black Sea waves. Authorities also confirmed the discovery of a second drone in Plauru village, located near the Ukrainian border, which had flown at a low altitude to evade radar detection.

In response to the increased aerial activity, NATO fighter aircraft were launched preventively seven times, and air policing alert levels were raised nine times. Helicopters were also deployed three times for research and prevention missions. Despite the high frequency of incursions and the proximity of the conflict, officials stated there are no indications that the risk level to the Romanian population has increased.
