Romania discusses prudent pension indexation for 2027 budget
Discussions regarding Romania's 2027 budget include potential prudent indexation of pensions and public sector salaries. Proposed Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare indicated that while indexation is being considered for January 1, 2027, the scale of the increase must be cautious and determined by future budget stability and political negotiations.
Daniel Dăianu, President of the Fiscal Council, supported the idea of prudent indexation to boost purchasing power but emphasized the need for a unitary salary law. Dăianu noted that the 2027 budget framework should be embraced by any incoming government. He also advised against reducing taxes or VAT at this time, citing a need for fiscal credibility to manage deficits and maintain access to financing.
Regional data shows that as of August 2026, Vaslui county had an average pension of 2,283 lei, which is higher than in Botoșani (2,227 lei) and Vrancea (2,275 lei).
