Romania: Driver detained on A1 motorway with 1 kg of cocaine

DIICOT prosecutors have ordered the detention of a 35-year-old man suspected of coordinating regional drug distribution networks after he was intercepted on the A1 motorway.

During a traffic inspection on October 2, 2026, authorities discovered approximately 1 kilogram of cocaine hidden within a specially constructed secret compartment in the vehicle's central console, located near the gear shifter. The suspect had modified the interior bodywork to evade detection during police checkpoints. The drugs were intended for sale on the black market in the capital.
