Romania energy storage funding requests exceed budget

Public institutions in Romania, including municipalities, hospitals, and schools, have submitted funding requests for new renewable energy storage capacities totaling approximately 307 million euros. This amount is more than double the allocated budget of 150 million euros set by the Agency for Rural Investment Financing (AFIR).

While storage capacity requests have significantly oversubscribed the available funds, a separate call for integrated photovoltaic systems with storage remains under budget. For the photovoltaic category, 1,332 applications totaling roughly 395.5 million euros have been submitted against a 500 million euro allocation.

Applications for storage capacities are being evaluated on a first-come, first-served basis, with a submission deadline of November 20. Even if all submitted projects were to pass eligibility evaluations, the current budget would cover less than half of the total requested amount.
