Romania energy sector sees surge in renewable and storage investments
Romania is experiencing a significant wave of investments in renewable energy and storage infrastructure. In the private sector, Nova Power & Gas is set to commission a 160 MW combined cycle plant and energy storage facility at Câmpia Turzii by the end of the year. Additionally, the ADREM Group projects a 33% revenue increase for 2026, driven by strategic acquisitions in energy infrastructure.
Public and semi-public entities are also prioritizing energy autonomy. The Maramureș County Council plans a 14.2 million lei investment in photovoltaic panels and storage across 18 locations. In Reșița, a 28 million lei solar park is expected to be completed in November, potentially saving the municipality up to 500,000 lei monthly. Furthermore, Eye Mall SRL is moving forward with battery storage projects near Târgu Cărbunești, co-financed by the Modernization Fund.
In the industrial and utility sectors, the Umbrărescu family has acquired the Romag Termo thermal power plant in Halânga for 30 million euros following multiple failed auctions. Meanwhile, Electrica is seeking up to 355 million euros from the European Investment Bank to modernize its distribution network and invest up to 185 million euros in battery storage systems.
