Romania expands ‘Sfânta Ana’ nursery construction program
The Romanian government is expanding its ‘Sfânta Ana’ program, an initiative dedicated to constructing nurseries across the country. Interim Minister of Development, Public Works, and Administration Cseke Attila announced that the total number of nurseries built through this program is expected to reach between 130 and 140 by the end of the year.
Initially launched in 2021 to address shortages in early childhood education and support parents returning to the workforce, the program has already seen the completion of 103 nurseries. While recent construction was supported by European funding through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the program will continue to be funded by the state budget as European funding for this specific component concludes.
The expansion aims to improve accessibility to early education in all Romanian counties, supporting both cognitive development for children and economic stability for families.
