Romania Sfânta Ana nursery construction program
Overview
The Romanian government is expanding its ‘Sfânta Ana’ program, an initiative launched in 2021 to address shortages in early childhood education. Interim Minister of Development, Public Works, and Administration Cseke Attila announced that the total number of nurseries built through this program is expected to reach between 130 and 140 by the end of the year, building upon the 103 nurseries already completed.
While recent construction has been supported by European funding through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the program will transition to being funded by the state budget as European funding for this component concludes.
Specific regional developments include a 27.3 million lei investment in Sibiu, which has completed a facility providing 110 places for children up to age three. Additionally, construction is underway in Satu Mare for a modern nursery on Bulevardul Lalelei, a project costing approximately 11.3 million lei that is expected to provide 40 places for preschool-aged children.
