Romania energy sector sees major renewable and gas infrastructure developments

Romania is undergoing significant energy infrastructure shifts, marked by large-scale renewable projects and advancements in gas power. Rezolv Energy has secured €561 million in financing for the Dama Solar project in Arad, a 1.3 GWp photovoltaic park expected to produce 1,800 GWh annually by 2028. Additionally, Greenvolt Group has obtained €284 million for its 253.1 MW Gurbănești wind project, which is slated for commercial operation by late 2027.

In the gas sector, the Mintia power plant has reached a technical milestone with the first successful firing of its number one gas turbine. Developed by Mass Global Energy Rom, the plant is expected to reach a capacity of 1,700 MW upon completion of its combined cycle, representing a private investment of over €1.2 billion.

On the industrial side, Rompetrol Rafinare is implementing a 9.4 MW photovoltaic project at its Petromidia refinery to reduce carbon emissions. Meanwhile, the domestic prosumer market is facing discussions regarding legislative changes and calls for a 0% VAT on solar panels and batteries to accelerate the green transition.
