Romania expands solar‑plus‑battery storage with new projects in Giurgiu and Brașov

PPC Renewables România is adding a 4.47 MW/8.94 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) to the existing 1‑MW‑class Colibași photovoltaic park in Giurgiu County. The project, valued at about 10.5 million lei, receives roughly 1.9 million lei of European Modernisation Fund support and aims to improve grid stability by storing excess solar power.

Separately, Brașov City Hall is studying the feasibility of installing battery storage for the forthcoming 19.95 MW Stupini solar park. The municipality allocated 140 000 lei for a specialist study and has secured 40.4 million lei of EU funding for the solar plant, which was delayed beyond its 2024 target. The storage option would help prevent over‑loading the grid on sunny days and align with broader EU trends in renewable energy storage.
