Romania extends limits on commercial markups for essential food products
Under Law no. 105/2026, Romania has extended the application of limited commercial markups for specific food categories until the end of 2026. This measure, which extends a previous deadline set by Emergency Ordinance no. 22/2026, regulates markups within the supply chain rather than setting a fixed final retail price.
The regulation applies to specific products based on weight, fat content, and packaging. Included items feature staples such as white bread (300–500g), cow's milk (1-liter packaging, 1.5% fat), and certain yogurts. Other regulated goods include white wheat flour and cornmeal in packages up to 1kg, sunflower oil in containers up to 2 liters, and specific cuts of fresh chicken and pork.
Additionally, the limits cover various bulk items including tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, carrots, and garlic, as well as specific fruits like red and golden apples, pears, plums, and table grapes. Other regulated products include white granulated sugar in packages up to 1kg, 12% fat sour cream, and butter in packages not exceeding 250g.
