Romania fines food retailers, Moldova reports Salmonella outbreak
Romanian consumer‑protection authorities completed a nationwide inspection of food‑service operators from 22‑26 June, issuing 856 fines totalling over 3.8 million lei and suspending activity for 24 businesses because of violations such as expired goods, missing labels and inadequate refrigeration.
In Moldova, the National Agency for Public Health confirmed a food‑borne infection cluster linked to a hotel in Chișinău, affecting 26 people. Laboratory tests identified Salmonella Enteritidis in seven patients, and a multidisciplinary team is conducting epidemiological investigations, isolating and treating cases, and increasing surveillance of food‑handling staff and products.
