Romania fuel prices approach 10 lei for gasoline and 11 lei for diesel

Fuel prices in Romania are reaching record levels, with standard gasoline approaching 10 lei per liter and standard diesel nearing 11 lei per liter. As of September 18, 2026, the national average for standard 95 gasoline is 9.97 lei/liter, while standard diesel averages 10.77 lei/liter. Premium diesel has exceeded 11.49 lei/liter.

These increases persist despite the Government's decision to maintain a 25% reduction in the diesel excise duty through the end of September. For a 50-liter tank, drivers can expect to pay approximately 499 lei for gasoline and 538.50 lei for diesel.

Data collected from over 1,700 stations, including Petrom, OMV, Rompetrol, MOL, Lukoil, Socar, and Gazprom, indicates that Romania ranks 13th out of 27 EU countries for gasoline prices and 12th for diesel. Experts suggest that fuel costs may continue to rise in the coming period.
