Fuel prices rise in Romania and Moldova amid global energy shifts

Fuel prices in Romania and Moldova are experiencing significant volatility and upward pressure. In Romania, standard gasoline has surpassed the 10 lei per liter threshold, with national averages hovering around 10.03 lei. Diesel prices are approaching the 11 lei mark, averaging approximately 10.95 lei per liter. Regional variations exist, with Botoșani reporting some of the lowest averages, while Ilfov sees higher costs.

Economic analysts attribute these increases to high international oil quotations and geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and Ukraine. There are concerns regarding a potential global diesel deficit that could persist through 2027. In Romania, a 25% reduction in diesel excise tax is set to expire on September 30, which may impact pump prices.

In Moldova, the National Authority for Energy Regulation (ANRE) has announced new price ceilings, allowing gasoline 95 to reach a maximum of 34.28 lei per liter due to adjusted calculation formulas.
