Romania Gains NATO Solidarity on Black Sea Security

At a NATO ministerial meeting, Defence Minister Radu Miruta said allies sent a clear message of solidarity with Romania and the security of the Black Sea region. Romania highlighted the emerging threat of naval drones in the Black Sea, linking it to what it described as increasingly aggressive Russian behaviour near allied territory.

The minister noted that Romania has signed contracts under the SAFE programme to acquire counter‑drone equipment and has requested temporary support until those capabilities are delivered. Several NATO members are reviewing possible additional contributions to strengthen the alliance’s eastern flank, and Romania will be integrated into further NATO initiatives aimed at rapid response to emerging challenges in the region.
