Romania Government Proposes Extending Oil Market Crisis Status
The Romanian government is discussing a draft decision to extend the crisis situation in the crude oil and petroleum products market, including gasoline and diesel, for an additional three months. The proposed extension covers the period from November 1, 2026, to January 31, 2027.
Developed by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Energy, the measure aims to maintain interventions designed to limit fuel price increases. Key measures include the temporary reduction of the excise duty on standard diesel by up to 25%, limits on commercial markups by economic operators, and the monitoring of exports and intra-community deliveries of crude oil and petroleum products.
According to the Ministry of Finance, ending the diesel excise reduction could lead to a price increase of approximately 0.85 lei per liter, raising the average price from roughly 10.90 lei to 11.75 lei per liter.
