Romania hikes water fees while Greece pushes road tax rollout to autumn

Romania's Parliament approved a law (PL‑x 504/2026) that amends the Water Law and related statutes, raising water‑use contributions by 2% starting 1 January 2027, an additional 4% on 1 January 2028 and 3.7% on 1 January 2029. The changes also introduce new measurement, metering and monitoring obligations for water users, shifting costs to operators and ultimately to households and businesses.

In Greece, authorities postponed the launch of a new road‑use tax system originally scheduled for July 2026. The new regime, set by Law 103/2026, will separate the existing vignette for light vehicles from a new TollRo fee for heavy trucks. Implementation is now planned for 1 October 2026, giving time to finalize the legal and technical framework.
