Romania implements textile waste collection initiatives
Local authorities and waste management services in Romania are implementing initiatives for the separate collection of textile waste to promote recycling and environmental protection.
In the Timiș region, RETIM Ecologic Service S.A., in partnership with the Intercommunity Development Association (ADID) Timiș, has announced a quarterly campaign for the free disposal of household textile waste. Running from October 1 to December 31, 2026, the campaign covers Timișoara and numerous surrounding localities, including Dumbrăvița, Ghiroda, and Sânandrei. Residents can dispose of up to 60 kg of clean, dry textiles per campaign, including clothing, bedding, curtains, and small carpets. Other waste types, such as electronic equipment or hazardous materials, are strictly excluded.
In the Șișești commune of Mehedinți county, authorities have issued guidelines regarding the obligation to separate textile waste. Citizens are instructed to use authorized collection points at the C.A.P. Șișești and must ensure that textiles are kept clean, dry, and separate from residual or hazardous household waste to facilitate reuse and proper management.
