Sibiu-Pitești Motorway completes Romania's first bored highway tunnel

Romania has completed the Curtea de Argeș-Tigveni section of the Sibiu-Pitești Motorway, marking a significant milestone in the country's road infrastructure. The project includes the completion of the Curtea de Argeș tunnel, a 1.35 km bored tunnel that is the first of its kind on a Romanian highway.

According to State Secretary Horațiu Cosma, the 9.86 km section was finished six months ahead of the contractual deadline. The construction was highly complex due to unstable terrain and landslides, requiring extensive stabilization work. The project also features 12 bridges and passages, totaling approximately 2.5 km in length.

Following the completion, the section will undergo testing of installations and equipment before official reception. Traffic is expected to open in October. Additionally, the Ministry of Transport expects to receive revised environmental agreements and final construction permits for the remaining mountain sections of the Sibiu-Pitești Motorway during the same month.
