Romania school director competition begins with digital evaluations
The national competition for school director and deputy director positions in Romanian state pre-university institutions commenced on October 13, 2026. Over 7,000 candidates have been validated to compete for approximately 8,491 options across various vacancies.
The first stage consists of an eliminatory standardized test featuring 20 items covering verbal, numerical, and logical reasoning. While candidates complete the tests on paper, the Ministry of Education is utilizing a new digital module to automatically scan and evaluate the results without human intervention. To pass this stage, candidates must achieve a minimum score of 6 out of 10.
Competition levels vary significantly by region. High demand is noted in Mehedinți, Dolj, and Gorj, where the number of options exceeds the available posts. Conversely, counties such as Harghita and Covasna show much lower interest, covering less than half of the vacancies. In Buzău, the competition has faced legal suspension due to administrative disputes involving the local School Inspectorate.
