Romania Issues Nationwide Yellow and Orange Weather Alerts
The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued a series of weather warnings for Romania on Friday, 3 July, lasting until Saturday, 4 July. A yellow‑code alert covering most of Transylvania, Oltenia, Maramureș, Muntenia, Dobrogea and the Carpathian foothills warned of torrential rain, thunderstorms, hail (1–3 cm) and wind gusts of 50–70 km/h, with isolated peaks above 80 km/h. The agency projected rainfall of 15–25 L/m² in short periods, potentially exceeding 30–40 L/m² in localized spots, raising flood risk in urban areas.
An orange‑code alert was also released for several counties (Alba, Sibiu, Covasna, Harghita and parts of Suceava, Neamț, Bacău, Vrancea, Buzău, Prahova, Dâmbovița, Argeș, Vâlcea), indicating more intense thunderstorms, stronger winds up to 90 km/h, and medium‑sized hail. Residents were advised to monitor updates and take precautions against rapid water accumulation and severe wind events.
