Romania issues RO-Alert after aerial target detected near Ukrainian border

The Romanian Ministry of National Defence issued an RO-Alert to residents in northern Tulcea County during the early hours of Monday morning. The alert, which lasted from 02:34 to 03:23, was triggered after radar systems identified an aerial target moving near the Romanian-Ukrainian border, specifically east of Vâlcove in Ukraine.

As a precautionary measure, two Spanish F-18 aircraft from the Spanish Air and Space Force, operating on an enhanced air policing mission, scrambled from the Mihail Kogălniceanu Air Base to monitor the situation. Authorities confirmed that no incursions into Romanian airspace were detected and that the incident occurred within the context of ongoing military activity near the border due to the war in Ukraine.
