Romania faces heatwave and high wind warnings

The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) has issued multiple yellow code warnings across Romania for extreme weather conditions on September 5, 2026. Much of the country is facing a significant heatwave, with temperatures expected to reach between 30 and 36 degrees Celsius. The highest temperatures are forecasted for the Banat and Oltenia regions. High heat indices (ITU) near 80 are expected, causing significant thermal discomfort.

In addition to the heat, several regions are under warnings for strong winds and storms. Wind gusts are predicted to reach 50–70 km/h in Banat, Crișana, western Transylvania, and northern Moldova. In high-altitude areas of the Western and Eastern Carpathians, gusts may exceed 70–90 km/h, with some mountain ridges seeing speeds over 90 km/h.

Localized torrential rain and thunderstorms are also possible, particularly in northern regions. Residents are advised to avoid prolonged sun exposure, stay hydrated, and exercise caution during high wind events.
