Romania weather alerts: Heatwaves followed by torrential storms

Romania is experiencing a period of extreme weather, beginning with intense heatwaves and transitioning into severe storms. The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) has issued orange and yellow alerts for heat across several regions, including Banat, Oltenia, and parts of Transylvania. Temperatures are expected to reach between 33 and 36 degrees Celsius, with high heat-humidity indices causing significant thermal discomfort in counties such as Timiș, Caraș-Severin, Mehedinți, and Dolj.

Starting Friday evening and continuing through the weekend, the weather pattern is expected to shift abruptly. Meteorologists warn of atmospheric instability characterized by torrential rains, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong wind gusts reaching 40 to 60 km/h. These severe weather conditions are projected to affect the west, north, and central parts of the country before expanding to the south and east. Authorities have advised citizens to take precautions against heat exhaustion and to remain vigilant during the upcoming storms.
