Romania faces extreme weather shifts from heatwaves to storms
Romania is experiencing a week of extreme weather fluctuations. The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) has issued multiple yellow codes as the country transitions from intense heatwaves to severe storms.
Initially, high temperatures reaching up to 37 degrees Celsius have affected various regions, including Banat, Crișana, and Transylvania, with high heat indices causing thermal discomfort. However, a significant shift is expected starting Monday night into Tuesday, bringing a sharp cooling effect where temperatures could drop by as much as 10 to 12 degrees Celsius in western, central, and northern regions.
This transition will be accompanied by atmospheric instability, including torrential rains, lightning, and wind gusts reaching 50 to 70 km/h, with mountain gusts potentially exceeding 90 km/h. Some areas may also experience small hail. Following this period of instability, meteorologists predict a return to hot conditions toward the end of August, with temperatures potentially climbing back to 38 degrees Celsius in some areas.
