Romania issues extensive yellow weather alerts for storms, heavy rain and hail

The National Meteorological Administration (ANM) has issued a yellow‑code weather warning for large parts of Romania on Monday 13 July 2026, valid from 13:00 to 20:00. The alert covers most of Muntenia, Dobrogea, the southeastern Transylvania area and the eastern Carpathians, including Bucharest. Meteorologists expect torrential rain, frequent lightning, wind gusts of 50‑70 km/h, isolated hail and occasional gusty winds. Local rainfall could exceed 30 litres per square metre, with accumulations of 15‑25 l/m² common during short bursts. The agency advises citizens to avoid non‑essential travel and to follow updates, especially in regions where wind‑driven debris or falling hail may pose hazards.

Further updates extend the warning to the mountainous zones from 15 July, with similar severe conditions forecast until the evening. In parallel, the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management (INHGA) warned of flood risk in northern Dobruja (Constanța and Tulcea counties) due to the same weather system, urging residents to stay alert for rapid river rises.

Authorities across the affected counties have been asked to monitor the situation closely and to issue local advisories as needed.
