Romania joins as founding member and hosts regional office of new Defence, Security and Resilience Bank
Romania has become a founding member of the newly created Defence, Security and Resilience Bank (DSRB), an international financial institution aimed at financing defence, critical infrastructure and resilience projects. The Ministry of Finance announced that Bucharest will host the bank's regional office for the Southern Flank, underscoring Romania's strategic role in the Black Sea and Eastern European security architecture.
The DSRB, a Canada‑led initiative, was announced by the leaders of Canada, Albania, Belgium, Greece, Latvia, Luxembourg, Romania, Türkiye and Ukraine at the Ankara NATO Summit. The bank seeks to complement existing funding mechanisms by mobilising public and private capital, reducing financing costs and supporting small and medium‑sized enterprises in the defence and related sectors. Operations are slated to begin as early as 2027.
