Romania launches DARIA project for free breast cancer screening
The DARIA project, an acronym for Active Detection, Responsibility, Information, and Access, has been launched in Romania to provide free mammography to at least 119,000 women. The initiative specifically targets socio-economically vulnerable or disadvantaged groups to facilitate early breast cancer detection and reduce preventable deaths.
The program aims to test 107,000 women from less developed regions and 12,000 from more developed areas. To support this, five regional prevention centers will be established and equipped. The project also utilizes mobile units to reach hard-to-access communities and includes a large-scale mobilization and information campaign targeting approximately 149,000 women.
In response to high demand for breast imaging, the Arad County Emergency Clinical Hospital has announced supplemental hours for mammographies and breast ultrasounds. Due to existing appointment lists being full through the end of the year, the hospital will hold a 12-hour session on October 31 to accommodate more patients.
