Romania launches eTarifGiurgiuPod system for Giurgiu‑Ruse bridge
The eTarifGiurgiuPod (eTGP) electronic toll system for the Giurgiu‑Ruse bridge over the Danube was officially received by the National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR). Director Cristian Pistol said the system will become operational on 15 June 2026, pending publication of a ministerial order in the Official Gazette.
The solution provides two prepaid lanes that automatically verify a payment made at least three minutes before entering the control area, allowing instant barrier opening and faster traffic flow. It is available via a web portal and a mobile app and will initially serve passenger cars, with plans to extend to heavy‑goods vehicles. Drivers will also be able to pay the toll online from 15 June 2026 in Romania and from July 2024 through the Bulgarian customs portal.
The system aims to streamline toll collection, reduce queues at one of Romania’s busiest border points, and improve the overall user experience while aligning with modern smart‑mobility standards.
