Romania launches major energy upgrades: Electrica's Craiova cogeneration plant and Baia Mare grid modernization

Electrica won a public tender to build a new combined‑heat‑and‑power plant in Craiova. The 12‑year concession will replace the city's aging thermal system with high‑efficiency cogeneration and renewable sources. The project, valued between 2.06 billion and 2.6 billion lei, includes a 976 million‑lei initial investment and aims to provide pollution‑free heat and electricity for the municipal network.

Separately, Distribution Energy Romania (DEER) completed a 14.1 million‑lei investment to modernise medium‑ and low‑voltage electric lines in Baia Mare, Maramureș. The works upgraded underground 10‑kV cables, replaced low‑energy‑loss lines, modernised hundreds of connections and installed new metering and protection equipment, improving reliability and safety for roughly four million users across the region.
