Romania launches solar battery financing programs

Romania is advancing its renewable energy transition through new financial support programs for solar energy storage. A proposed funding program for photovoltaic batteries has an estimated budget of 400 million lei, aimed at helping homeowners, companies, and farmers overcome the high initial costs of energy storage technology.

Additionally, the Romanian government has introduced a support program for prosumers, allowing individuals and legal entities to receive up to 15,000 lei for installing energy storage systems. These batteries allow for the storage of excess solar energy generated during the day for use at night or during cloudy periods, reducing dependence on the electrical grid.

To benefit from the 15,000 lei subsidy, applicants must be authorized prosumers with existing solar panel systems and compatible storage solutions. As solar adoption grows, legal concepts such as solar light easements are also becoming relevant to ensure property owners can access sufficient sunlight without obstruction from neighboring constructions or vegetation.
