Romania Leads EU in Construction Growth, Up 10% in April 2026
Eurostat data released on 19 June 2026 shows Romania posted the strongest month‑on‑month increase in construction work in the European Union for April, with output rising 10.3 % from March. The surge follows a 0.6 % decline in March and lifts annual growth to 23.8 % compared with April 2025. In the same period, Romania’s construction sector recorded an 11.7 % rise in cumulative output for January‑April 2026, according to a brief from the Romanian news outlet Nine O’Clock.
The growth was driven by higher activity across residential, non‑residential and engineering works, with notable increases in capital repair (+17.3 %), current maintenance (+17.1 %) and new construction (+12.6 %). Romania outperformed other EU members, where overall construction activity grew 0.8 % in April 2026.
