Romania: Man arrested for suspected human trafficking

A 20-year-old man has been placed under preventive arrest for 30 days following allegations of human trafficking in Romania. Authorities from the Ploiești Organized Crime Combatting Brigade and DIICOT investigators documented that throughout 2025, the suspect allegedly exploited a young woman's vulnerability under the pretext of a romantic relationship.

The suspect is accused of transporting the victim to various locations in Prahova, Bistrița-Năsăud, and Sălaj counties, where he allegedly forced her into prostitution through physical and psychological coercion to benefit himself and his family. Medical examinations reportedly confirmed instances of violence. The victim, who had a child with the suspect in July, was allegedly pressured into leaving the child in the care of authorities. During searches conducted on August 19, 2026, police seized weapons, an airsoft pistol, and various sums of money.
