Nadia Comăneci celebrated 50 years of perfect 10 as Romania launches major sports‑base investment

Romania marked the 50th anniversary of Nadia Comăneci’s historic perfect 10 with a series of nationwide events. The government approved a 122 million‑lei investment to completely modernise the CSM Onești sports complex, adding a gymnastics hall, weight‑lifting arena, tennis courts, accommodation and a museum.

A gala at the Palace of Parliament in Bucharest, attended by former Olympians, tennis champion Simona Halup, and other sports legends, honoured Comăneci with the National Order “Star of Romania” – Grand Cross, presented by President Nicușor Dan. Similar celebrations took place in Onești, Iași, Cluj, Constanța and other cities, featuring exhibitions, gymnastics competitions and concerts, notably a performance by singer Loredana Groza.

During a televised interview Comăneci described her diet, saying she eats yogurt, a boiled egg, turkey ham toast, orange juice and coffee for breakfast, fish, salads, avocado and fruit for dinner, and drinks a beer or two at night. The events underscored her lasting influence on Romanian sport and culture.
